TOUR TO DUBLIN

We went to Dublin last February because we were going to see the Museum of Irish history and the Bodies Exhibition. We learnt lots about it. We think it was very interesting about the Museum Irish history and the Bodies Exhilition.
We met the girls from Dublin. They are deaf girls from St Mary’s School in Cabra. We met the girls in the Museum of Irish History. They were very nice girls and we talked. We all thought it was very interesting about the Museum of Irish history and the girls weren’t going to see the Bodies Exhilition because they had to go home. We went to Mc Donald’s with the girls and with my school. In the Museum of Irish History they had lots of jewellerys and lots of other things.
In the Bodies Exhilition we saw the lungs of smokers, hearts, skeletons and brains. We saw the spine, cancer in the lungs and lots more. It was so interesting but it made me feel a little scared to see the dead bodies!
The people should stop smoking because it is very bad for the lungs. It causes them to turn black. We saw the Foetus who were unborn. I think it is very strange because I never saw what it looked like.
When the girls went back to school we had say bye to the girls and hugged to the girls too. We went to the restaurant in the train station then we went to on the train going home in the evening.
When I was sitting on the train I thought the girl named Ríona was missing from the train. We were so worried because we thought we had lost her and we asked the teachers where is Ríona? The teachers were shocked and laughing we knew they were only playing a hoax on us! They said Ríona just went home. We were laughing at the teachers… hahaha!
We arrived in Limerick at around 8:30 and I went home at 9pm. I was so tired.

Our School Tour To Dublin.

We all went on a train to Dublin at 7:55 am I had to get up at half six in the morning. We all are going to Dublin because we want to see the bodies and to meet the girls from Cabra, Dublin school for Deaf Girls.
When we arrived there we went to the Museum of Irish History we also met the girls from St Mary’s school. My partner’s name is Amanda and Amaa. We saw real bodies that were found in the bog. They were not full bodies. Some of their parts were missing. They had got skin and clothes on them but it was covered in brown. I saw jewellery. I would say it was from Neolithic Age but some was Bronze age. The interesting part was the Egyptian mummies because long ago when you died they take everything out of the inside of your body. We all went for lunch in Mc Donald’s it was yummy! The girls had to go back to their school. We went to the Bodies Exhibition. It was all about hearts, lungs of smokers, veins, and arteries, cancer tumours, the stomach, skeleton, Brains and the spine. We also saw the foetus. It was interesting. It showed what a four weeks old baby looked like and more.
We all went back to the train station and we had dinner there. I had Beef Stroganoff. When we were finish we all went to the shop called the sweet factory and got sweets and drinks. We waited for five or ten minutes for the train to come then we got on the train. We had a great laugh for two hours on the train. We were messing and talking. When we arrived at Limerick Junction we changed trains to go to Limerick.
We thought we lost Riona. We asked the teachers where she was but one teacher was laughing so we knew it was a joke. The teacher was crazy on the train laughing my friend and I thought they must be happy so then we watched them then we arrived at Limerick and went home.

BODIES EXHIBITION

The bodies exhibition is on in the Ambassador Theatre, O’Connell St. in Dublin. It is on from Feb-July 2009.
The Exhibition is about the inside of people’s bodies. Some people who died donated their bodies to science. The reason for this exhibition is to help people to understand how their bodies work. It also teaches us how to look after our bodies for e.g. drink water, do regular exercises, not to drink, not to smoke and not to expose our skin to the sun.
They showed us fine models of healthy organs and smokers organs.
They showed us what out heart and brain looks like. We saw parts of bodies that were infected by cancer. We also saw different stages of the foetus with perfect bones and organs. It is good education for young girls and women.
It was amazing to see the layers of muscles, viens and arteries in our bodies.
I found it easier to study about the bodies because it was a real visual experience then studying from the books .
It brings the class to life!.

Our Trip to Glendalough and Newgrange

My History Project

By Roma

As a part of my Leaving Cert History Exams, I am doing a History project, based on a topic of my choice from any era of History. When I choose the topic, I will research about it on the internet, in books or wherever I can find relevant data. Then I will write an essay about what I have learnt, what data I have found relevant or irrelevant, whether I have found the data helpful, what my aims are and what I expect to gain from this project.

The topic I choose is:
“The execution of the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II and his family”
The reason I choose this topic is because I was always interested in why Nicholas II was executed and I heard the rumors that one of Tsars children escaped the execution and I wanted to find out if the story is true.
While doing this project I learnt many things about Nicholas II and his family.
Nicholas II married the English princess Alix of Hesse, The granddaughter of Queen Victoria. Alix had to convert from her Catholic religion to Orthodox religion in order to marry Tsar Nicholas II.
Nicholas had four daughters (Olga, Maria, Tatiana and Anastasia) and after long time trying they had a son, an heir to the throne, Alexei.
Alexei was born with a disease called Haemophilia which causes people to bleed heavily even after a slight cut and there was no cure then back at that time.
Bolshevik leaders such as Lenin decided that in order to create a better working Russia they had to execute the Tsar and his family or any heir to the throne such as Alexei(Nicholas’s son) or Mikhail ( Nicholas’s brother) so that nobody would stand in the way.
When the family was executed no one could find the bodies but a few weeks later it was said that they found bodies of Nicholas II and his wife and his four daughters but could not find the body of Tsarevich Alexei.
It was believed that Tsarevich Alexei has escaped wounded and that he changed his name and had a family of his own in exile. There is a book based on Tsarevich Alexei called “The escape of Alexei: Son of Nicholas II.

Internet Safety

By Andrea

You must be careful when you are on bebo. It can be dangerous because if you put a picture of yourself and the place where you live people can find you easily. If you don’t put a picture of yourself with your name it is safer. You can block the person on bebo or on msn. When on msn you should be careful because someone can add you and maybe ask you where you live and you would be better to say nothing. For children’s safety you can block people if you don’t know who they are. If they add you again ignore them! Don’t chat to them on msn

Back in the Neolithic time.

Hi, my name is Shazme. I am 10 years old. Every morning I must get up at 6am. Everyday my mom and dad get up too. My mom lights a fire using flint and timber and my dad goes down to the river to catch a fish and I boil the water. Most days when my dad comes back he only has one fish. My mother cooks the fish and the three of us share it for breakfast.
My clothes are made from animal’s skins. I go to work at 7am and I bring my tools with me. I have a stone hammer, stone chizel, stone axes and needles. I make spiral designs in the kerbstone with my stone hammer and stone chizel. My family and I are working on the kerbstone at the entrance to Newgrange mound.

The top of the roof is called a roof-box. I made the three spirals on the kerbstones it took me 6 weeks to chizel the kerbstone.
I finish work at 2pm then I go to work on the farm. At harvest time I cut the wheat, barley and oats.
I came home for dinner I had lamb and oatmeal, they cooked it over the fire. My aunt had just made a bowl out of clay from the ground and I put my food in the bowl. I use my hand to eat the food.
I play with the other children for while until it gets dark. I play with my friends, their names are Cholie and Goddly . It is getting dark now so I must go to bed see you in the morning.
